Concepts

The concept of caring is key for the work. We do not try to create a perfect recipe that will prevent any mistakes. There is no such thing and every event has its own conditions that need to be dealt with. It is not about being right, just to have a good reputation but about understanding that people get hurt by the unequal system we live in, therefore it needs our awareness to not reproduce the mechanisms, to understand how people are getting hurt, to be open and willing to learn about our own mistakes so we can break the ongoing cycle. Only when we truly care, we can begin to understand and sustainably work together to find solutions.

all attendees –  audience, performers, and organisers – need to be explicitly informed of the community standards of the space they are in.

spreading the burden of applying community standards, addressing problematic behaviour – both on and off stage – organisation team members responsible for event safety need not address any situation individually and are encouraged to draw on the team for support in handling any situations that may arise

Unfortunately the ultimate safe space does not exist. We all can be hurt, even by ourselves sometimes. Bearing this in mind we still want to find ways to make events as safe as possible. That means we use the tools we create to set guidelines with the intention to respect our boundaries and feel comfortable with sharing. Performing and perceiving art, both can make one feel vulnerable. This is totally fine as long as this is happening with consent. In that way we can feel safer together. Not entirely safe, but as safe as possible.
